A native Washingtonian, Michael White was groomed in the church. The son of a preacher, he carefully watched his father declare the word as he preached throughout Northern Virginia. During this time, he developed a desire for music and he began singing with his father at age five. When the youth saw a need for a church musician, he prayed that God would give him the gift. God answered his prayer and the eight-year-old took to the piano. That was just the beginning of his love for music.
Michael’s talent continued to blossom and by the of age fourteen, he was playing for all the church’s choirs where His father pastored. It was the start of a career in music ministry that eventually led him to the doors of Reid Temple AME Church where he began serving under the pastorate of Rev. Lee P. Washington, as Minister of Praise & Worship and Minister of Music. It was during that season of teaching songs of worship where I found my true calling and purpose,” says White. Growing music ministry departments is his ultimate passion. He loves to develop talent within the local church. White is known for developing choir voices, soloists, and worship leaders of all ages. Michael currently serves as the Minister of Music for Kingdom Fellowship A.M.E. in Calverton Maryland and also serves as Choir director for the Alumni Chorale of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses.
As a singer, songwriter, musician, and minister of music, White emerged onto the gospel music landscape with his debut independent release, “Conqueror,” on Michael White Music. The same fire that fueled his debut release, is the driving force behind his latest project entitled “Sing Over Me,” a collection of songs Michael hopes will bring every listener into the presence of The Lord.
Stellar Award winning Minister Earl Bynum and the Mount Unity Choir recorded one of Michael’s praise and worship anthems, “Bless The Name of Jesus” as a featured song and radio single. In addition, White’s signature song, “Great and Marvelous God,” released on Troy Sneed’s CD, “My Heart Says Yes,” is readily sung by Marvin Winans and musical aggregations all over the world.
Michael White has recorded with Patrick Lundy & The Ministers of Music, Minister Freda Battle, Stephen Hurd, Toby Palmer & Chosen Generation, and Phillip Carter & The Sounds of Victory.
Michael is the proud husband of Cherlyn White and proud father of Dion White, Anissa White Williams, Mian White Hairston and Cierra White.
If there is one word that describes Michael White, that word is “passionate.” He’s passionate about worship, passionate about God’s people, and passionate about proclaiming God’s word through song. As a gifted worship leader, he knows it’s simply the anointing of God that allows him to write and sing songs that will lead others into the very presence of God.
